Survival Fire Tip – How To Make Logs From Weeds
If you ever find yourself stranded in the open prairie and needing a fire this tip could save your life! In some parts of the midwest and mountain west in the high prairie you can walk miles and miles without ever seeing a tree. So building fire in those areas can be very tough. Fortunately there is plenty of fuel all around in most cases. You just need to reconfigure the fuel from its natural state into something more useable and that is what this post / video is all about. Watch the video below to learn how to make logs from weeds in order to give you some useable fuel for your fire.

In case you prefer to read about this tip instead of watching the video I will give you a quick explanation. Essentially all you need to do is gather up a bunch of dried weeds or grass. take large bunch of those weeds or grass and tightly pack them together into a small package that resembles the size and shape of a fire log. Then take some wire or cord (the inner strands of 550 parachute cord works perfectly) and tie the weeds together. Your goal is to tie the weeds very tightly and try to get the log packed as tight as possible so that it will burn longer.
The best way to arrange these when you are burning them is in a star pattern, so that they are just burning from one end. This helps to keep the cordage intact longer and keeps the log together better as it burns. Now realize this is not a perfect solution, but it will extend the time that the fire burns. If you tried to burn these weeds or grasses without tying them up like this it would end up in a flash fire that would burn out in no time at all.
